Hey writer friends! If you love a good discount, here are the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals for freelance writers that I’ve been able to dig up this year.
I’m using most of these tools to grow my freelance copywriting agency, and I’m sure they’ll make your life easier, too.
These deals don’t stick around for long, so check out the list and start planning your strategy for Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.
- Invest in software that checks your copy
- Grab an app to manage your passwords
- Get a VPN to protect your personal data
- Invest in email marketing software and grow your audience
- Score a cheap domain and web hosting package
- Upgrade your website with a discounted WordPress Theme
- Grab a discounted e-reader
- Treat yourself to a pair of noise-canceling headphones
Invest in software that checks your copy
It always helps to have a second set of eyes on your copy. But when you’re a solo freelance writer with tight deadlines and even-tighter budgets, it isn’t always possible to hire a copy editor to review each of your projects.
This is where grammar and copy checking apps can help. They scan your drafts for grammar, spelling, tone, language usage, plagiarism, and more, all based on customizable parameters that you set up in your dashboard.
Either of these two copy checking apps is a must-have in a freelance writer’s toolkit.
I personally use Grammarly Pro to review all of my drafts in Google Docs. It scans anywhere between 150k – 300k words per week. I can’t even begin to imagine how much time that’s saved me from having to review my client work with a fine-tooth comb.
Stay tuned for Grammarly’s 2019 Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal.
ProWritingAid — 50% off all plans for Black Friday Weekend
ProWritingAid is a great alternative to Grammarly Pro. It’s like having a free writing coach hovering over your shoulder, pointing out the typos and bad writing habits that you can’t readily see.
This year the ProWritingAid Black Friday and Cyber Monday deal is huge—50% off all their plans.
Grab an app to manage your passwords
Ever have one of those days where, after writing for hours, you feel like your brain is just too full? That’s mental overload. And if you’re anything like me, I struggle to remember my passwords when my brain is fried.
Investing in a password manager frees your brain up to focus on writing. Here are the best password managing apps for freelance writers that are having Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
I’ve been using 1Password for over a year. I’ve got 241 passwords in there to date. Last year they didn’t have a Black Friday deal, which is a bummer. I’ll update this list if they come out with a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale this year.
In 2018, Sticky Password offered 70% off their plans on Black Friday. I’ll update this list as soon as the Sticky Password Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2019 offer is announced.
Just like 1Password, there was no Dashlane Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal in 2018. The app is a great alternative to 1Password, though, so I’ll be checking their site to see if they’re offering a discount in 2019.
Get a VPN to protect your personal data
If you log onto public wifi while you write, you’re more susceptible to hacking and identity theft. A VPN can cloak your computer’s IP address and make it harder for hackers to steal your personal info.
I use NordVPN and grabbed their 3-year deal. Last year, Nord offered up to 70% off their plans on Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.

Invest in email marketing software and grow your audience
If you’re serious about growing your freelance writing business, you’re going to need to build a solid list of subscribers. I use ConvertKit because I find it more intuitive and easier to use than most of the major (and more complex) email service providers.
In 2018, ConvertKit came out with a mammoth Black Friday/Cyber Monday Deal. For $289, new subscribers received:
- 12 months of ConvertKit for up to 1000 subscribers
- Creator Pass Pro – a suite of education and resources for creators
- 90 day trial of the Teachable course platform
- Six plug-and-play visual automation templates that can be copied directly into a ConvertKit account
- Ebook of Authority: A step-by-step guide to self publishing
- I Am A Blogger coffee table book (a physical copy) – link to book
I’ll update this post with ConvertKit’s 2019 Black Friday deal once it’s announced.
Score a cheap domain and web hosting package
Domain registrars and web hosting providers offer crazy deals on Black Friday weekend. I’m a big fan of Namecheap because of their 24/7 customer support and cheap deals.
If you’re looking to buy, or want to bring your web hosting costs down, check out these providers on Black Friday weekend:
Namecheap Black Friday Deals
Namecheap came out swinging on Black Friday weekend with deals like:
- Domains Up to 98% off
- Hosting Up to 97% off
- Security Up to 90% off
- Private Email Up to 95% off
I’ll update this post with links to the Namecheap Black Friday 2019 sale as soon as it’s announced.
Bluehost Black Friday Deals
Bluehost is one of the most trusted WordPress hosting providers. Last year, they offered web hosting packages for as little as $2.65 a month (that’s up to 60% off their regular rates).
I’ll update this post with links to the Bluehost Black Friday 2019 sale as soon as it’s announced.
Upgrade your website with a discounted WordPress Theme
Last year I scored the Genesis Pro Theme Package for my business and I couldn’t be happier with it. If you want to upgrade your freelance writing website in 2020, Black Friday weekend is a great time of the year to look around for WordPress theme deals.
Browse these sites for inspiration and bookmark the themes you want to buy. That way you’ll be ready to buy them at a discount on Black Friday weekend.
StudioPress Black Friday Deals
I’m a happy user of several StudioPress WordPress themes. They work well, and the company’s customer support is super responsive. Last year StudioPress offered the following deals on Black Friday weekend:
- New customers: 20% off all themes
- Existing customers: 45% off all themes
The StudioPress Pro Plus Pack was also on sale for $299 (it’s regularly priced at $499.95).
I’ll update this post with the StudioPress Black Friday 2019 deal when it’s announced.
WordPress Black Friday Theme Deals
These theme providers also usually offer great Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.
Squarespace never offer Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, but you can check out their active coupons and discounts here.
Grab a discounted e-reader
If you’re a writer chances are you’re also a voracious reader. Black Friday and Cyber Monday is usually the best time of the year to grab yourself a discounted e-reader.
Kindles from Amazon and Nooks from Barnes & Noble are often the best deals on Black Friday weekend.
Amazon Kindle Black Friday deals
Nook Black Friday deals
Treat yourself to a pair of noise-canceling headphones
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: noise-canceling headphones are a must-have tool for freelance writers. They block out the world and help you stay focused while you’re writing in a busy workplace, cafe, or airport.
My top (and only) pick are the Bose QuietComfort 35 IIs. I’ve worn them to death, and at $279 USD they’re not cheap—but the ROI has been massive for my business. I’m not sure if they’ll be discounted for Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend, but it’s worth investigating if you need a new pair.
That’s everything on my Black Friday Cyber Monday deals for freelance writers list this year, folks.
Is there a killer deal, app, or tool for freelance writers that I overlooked? Let me know in the comments and I’ll add it ASAP.
